Bailey Bee Supply now carries the Beetle Baffle and will soon also have the spacer/shim Walter describes below.

I see that the creator also offers a kit with a cypress spacer that allows the front strip not to be mounted to the bottom of the hive body. I contacted him regarding 8 frame sizes. He says he can easily manufacture custom sizes. I think I'll give it a test run.

Hello all,

I saw this new little bee link passed around this weekend. Thought i'd share for those w/ a hate-hate relationship w/ the SHB!

Its a new metal barrier for stopping (mostly) the SHB from gaining entry to the hive. *(first observation) That is IF you are not using an upper entrance that does not have screen over it.

It seems to hold promise. Invented and and made by a beekeeper! I like that it is a install and walk away product. *(second observation) I'm a little worried that one piece attaches to the bottom of the hive body. In short what if you had to swap that hive body? Wonder if it would work best on one of those aligning boards?

Still cool to see how this works out in a complete approach.
