Sandi,
Did you see the actual insects? The picture looks like a European hornet nest. European hornets are very large, very yellow, quite striking in appearance. They aren't nearly as aggressive as yellow jackets. In a month or two, if not sooner, they'll be completely gone -- they don't overwinter in the nest. Then she can take the nest down to show all her friends. Randall Austin On 8/12/2013 8:33 PM, Sandi Greene wrote: I got a call for help from a friend who said she had a 'bee hive' in her garage wall. I went to check it out and it looks to be yellow jackets - the exterior entry is a very small hole and the nest visible from the interior wall of the garage is quite beautiful - about a foot wide by maybe 8 inches. I've only seen yellow jackets nesting in the ground. Who should she call to have the nest removed from her garage wall? Thanks, Sandi Payne Greene in Chapel Hill |
