That's really interesting, Lew. I've seen my bees attack European hornets, yellow jackets, bumble bees and of course hive beetles, but never June bugs, at least not that I recall. Mine seem to ignore bugs and beetles outside the actual hive, unless they are predators near the entrance.

I wonder what the June bugs did to tick off the bees? Maybe in this hot, nectar-less weather, any stranger is viewed as a potential honey-stealing threat.

Once again, I'm a "three month old" beekeeper, but I saw a June Beetle on the outside of one of my hives, and my ladies were none too happy to see it.  Looks as if they were "balling" it, trying to roll it over to sting it.  Is this common?  It certainly was entertaining.
