Hi all,
Thursday night for the Raleigh screening works great. I'm corresponding with Stephanie at UNC to nail down a date for their screening, but they're aware Thursday is already "taken." Once I hear back from Stephanie, I'll send out a note to everyone and maybe we can start discussing the poster and promotion early next week? How does that sound? It looks like the UNC screenings will loosely focus on "the South." With our films focusing somewhat on international travels/cultures and State's films focusing on many local events, I think we'll have a nice balance -- from our backyard to the far reaches of the globe, so to speak.
More soon.

Hey, y’all – I believe we at the State Archives have fixed on Thursday nigh, October 24th, for our screening. I believe Duke has been considering Tuesday or Wednesday, October 22nc or 23rd. Here I have pasted a copy of correspondence about this from a few weeks ago…, but this is all I have heard so far:
This sounds great, Kim! Thanks for providing all this information.
Kirston
PS: I think this event would make a great spot on "The State of Things." Perhaps we can contact Katy Barron, Managing Editor, and kind of pitch it to her at some point - send her a brief description of the program and a list of potential people to interview.

Y’all,
That is pretty exciting!
I don’t know that we have any films that follow the travel theme, but here at the State Archives, we are thinking of showing some of the following on the evening of Thursday, October 23rd:
- H. Lee Waters films of Hillsborough, NC
- Raleigh Fire Department training film, c.1950s (hilarious)
- Tar Heel Family by George Stoney 1949, very forward thinking film about NC’s natural resources and conservation etc…
- Tomorrow’s Market Today, 1965 film by WRAL about ‘modern’ marketing and economic development and the new Research Triangle Park!
- Jockey’s Ridge for all the People, 1975-1976, moving student film by Ron Hagell about saving the dune from developers and the founding of the state park at Jockey’s Ridge
And please count us “in” on a joint poster and let me know what you need from us. Our screening date is not ‘set in stone’ but Thursday is a very good night for us if it doesn’t conflict with anyone else. Please do keep me in the loop on this and I look forward to hearing from you!

Subject: [NCMIA] Home Movie Screenings in October
Hello everyone,
Karen Glynn and I have chosen several films to screen the week following Home Movie Day (October 18). I hope some of you have uncovered some home movie treasures as well and are still interested in screening these films the week of October 20-24. If so, I thought it might be a good idea to choose a date for each of our screenings. Perhaps we could each choose one night for screenings and work this into our PR strategy?
As it happens, the films we’ve chosen for our screening are all somehow related to travel and/or world cultures. We’re planning to screen films from the Sidney D. Gamble collection (China 1917-1932, DVD), the Glenn Kiner collection (Shanghai, 1928, lenticular, DVD), the Frederic Cowper Papers (Paris Exposition, 1937, film print), the H. Lee Waters collection (North Carolina, 1930s, film print), and the Morris Margolin Collection (USSR, Japan, Norway, France, Israel, 1950-60s, DVD).
We’d like to screen our films either Tuesday, October 21 or Wednesday, October 22. How does this work with your schedules? Should we try to collaborate on a poster for this event? If so, we may be able to design it here at Duke and provide a pdf file to everyone to print from. Please let us know if you like the idea of a joint poster listing the multiple screenings and we’ll see if we can get Library support to create it.
Please write back with any thoughts or ideas and with a preferred screening date.
Thanks,
Kirston and Karen

Hey folks,
I'm about to head to Texas for a couple of shows over the weekend, but we need to coordinate:
1) HMD 2008 Raleigh.
Specifically, press for the event. Can we get the NCSU promo machine cranking?
2) The Screening. Tentatively we were going to do a screening at the Erdahl-Cloyt theater in the library, but it's not done yet. Is that still the case, Lisa? If so, we need to find an alternative venue. So far, I don't think the other universities have announced a date, so maybe we should jump on it and be first to pick a date. What do you think?
Also what do we want to screen, I suppose it doesn't really need to be home movie-centric but it would be a nice tie-in?
