I also had poor graft success, but I attributed it to the relentless fireblight strikes this spring and summer. Just as new growth would get started on the pome scions, about 1/2 - 1 inch of leafy growth, the tip would blacken, then the whole area of new growth would blacken and necrose. Very discouraging...
