Thank you Dr O'Barr, that is reassuring. Probability is on my side as well; my mature nut bearing pecans are planted 40 feet apart whereas the endemic hickories are at least 80 feet away from the pecans.

I planted pecans from my trees and many germinated and are growing up
quite well, but the leaf shape varies among seedlings. For example, some
leaflets are wider than others. I have wild pignut and mockernut pecans
in my area. How do I determine if I have pecan or hican seedlings? Can I
determine this by phenotype (at this point that means leaf shape) alone?
