I tried a few of these last year.  It would seem to be maybe be a stronger
graft, I don't know.  after doing a few a went back to whip and tongue for
this reason.  You are trying to match 4 angle cuts rather than two.  Although
with apples I am not sure perfection really matters.  A wedge graft is
actually aligning a small portion of the scions cambium and they seem to work.

I just posted the video because I thought it was interesting, not because I
thought it preferable to the worlds simplest graft- the splice. The splice
provides more than adequate cambium contact and requires just two simple
slanted cuts that can be performed with a pruning shear. I use a double
bladed Italian model available from amleo.com. I wrap the grafts with
electric tape (which I slice longitudinally once it is fully healed) and
the scion wood with parafilm.

I do about 100 such grafts a year.
