Pete,

You are correct. My error, it was 100 of a population of 380 not 120.

The Geneva Station in New York and EMLA in UK did a lot of very important w=
ork=2C especially the development of desirable rootstocks for apples. Not j=
ust the ability of the root to absorb nutients=3B resistance to Wolly Apple=
Aphids=2C Nematodes=2C Fireblight=2C Scab. Improved anchoring and cold har=
diness. Drought tolerance and wet soil tolerance. Improved branching habits=
. Resistance to crown rot. I would be interested to hear what Dr. Jim Cummi=
ns thinks about the seedling / grafted apple fruit argument. T=
he definition of the word 'experiment' is 'work done to prove or disprove a=
theory'. In the seed vs. graft argument=2C we see a 'proclamation'=2C but =
surprisingly little mention of things like fruit quality=2C quantity=2C siz=
e=2C acid=2C sugars=2C keeping ability etc.. Until someone generates a 'sco=
re card'=2C the contest is over. For myself=2C I grow seedling trees for am=
usement and rootstocks. For production=2C Geneva and EMLA get the job done =
in a predictable and reliable manner. There are a number of exce=
llent 'chance seedling' apples=3B Cox's Pippin=2C Hudson Golden Gem=2C Wolf=
River=2C Virginia Gold=2C Red Delicious=2C to name a few. Are any of these=
offered for sale on their own roots? my 2 centsMurph
