Boughen's Nursery in Manitoba carries several kinds of Sea Buckthorn.
Cornhill Nursery and Mcfaydens and T&T carry blackberries.

Subject: [NAFEX] canadian sources
For those of you in Canada, where do you get your nursery stock from? Do any
of you know of good sources for any of the russian sea buckthorn cultivars?
How about blackberry cultivars - all I'm finding is Perrons, Chester and
Ilini. Anyone know of a nursery with Darrow?
Thanks,
Kristine, north eastern Québec

We use parafilm for all our grafting. A big advantage of parafilm is that
it will break down eventually so there is no need to remove it and it will
not strangle the new bud later. Breakdown occurs after the union has
healed. We usually wrap several times over most of the graft except we like
to leave only 1 layer directly on top of the bud, especially if grafting in
spring. A bud breaking in spring can push through a single layer of
parafilm even if freshly applied. Mostly we do bud grafting in late summer
when August begins to get cooler. When I teach grafting to undergrad
students and farmers, I get 70 to 80% success rate of grafts taking. The old
method using rubber bands and grafting compound was about 10 to 15%
successful for new people. It really makes a big difference. Parafilm is
much cleaner too.

Nice thing about Parafilm is that it expands and doesn't constrict. Of
course the downside as others have mentioned, is lack of strength in holding
the graft or bud. It's a lot stretchier in warm weather or when warmed in
your fingers and breaks less easily.
