I have three cornus mas trees. The Pioneer fruited two years ago for the
first time, took a rest last year, and has set a crop this year. The Elegant
set some fruit this year, but it all turned black and shriveled -- after
beginning to form. It didn't look obviously diseased, but there aren't any
other obvious stresses to the tree, either. Any ideas? (The third tree,
Jolico, is younger, and didn't set any fruit, although I think it had a
handful of flowers with female parts this year.)
All of the trees are in dappled shade with no direct sun. The Elegant
probably gets the best sun. They all look healthy as far as the foliage and
new growth go.
thanks,
