I have tried several trees grafted on osage orange in the ground (5b).  All
have failed to emerge from dormancy after their first winter and thus died.
The surviving plant is in a very large pot that gets moved up against the
exposed basement wall and heavily mulched each winter.  Source is Edible
Landscaping.  With this encouraging news, I'll keep trying but will be taking
cuttings this year, just in case.

Looks like I'm going to plant a che out in the ground. I have enough potted
plants to move up and down the narrow steps to the basement for winter.
