There are dozens of wild crab apples in the neighborhood, and new seedlings
sprout all the time. I've grown domestic apple trees (or at least, branches
of domestic apples grafted to crabs) for about 10 years. I'm pretty sure I'm
at a stable level of all the local pathogens.
