I would imagine soil content has something to do with flavor too.
Our peach harvest this year with the very hot days of normal to high humidity and good rainfall was excellent...what I didn't lose to brown rot. Superior flavor. I'm in SE Ohio zone 6a. Clay soil...quite red color, maybe not as red as Georgia though :)
