Garlands of red beads? Who would that fool? Certainly not birds. Your berry beads need to be a close facsimile or the real thing; birds are not stupid!
How to hang the beads??? I started out by buying screw hooks, then holding the hook with a pliers - heating the screw end with a blow torch and melting in into the hole of the bead. That's quick but the wind can blow them off a branch.
Next I used a small diameter, dead soft aluminum wire. Making a proper hook and attaching it to the bead can be time-consuming but I did it for the cherry trees because I leave the beads on the branches all year and the aluminum is soft enough that it expands with the branches as they increase their diameter.
