And also quite new in California ---there is the Asian Citrus Psilid, and
the Spotted Wing Drosilla-- Drosophila suzukii, a type of vinegar fly
(wrecking the cherries and much of the commercial Ollieberry crop in Santa
Cruz last year). This latter bug lives in Japan so other colder areas might
be hit with this.

They have not hit my garden yet but it is only a matter of time.
We had a big hullabaloo about the Light Brown Apple Moth for a couple of
years--were told to not give so much as a flower to a neighbor much less
have plant sales and plant raffles without an inspection--but now the state
government cannot enforce the quarantine effectively and the moth has spread
widely--but apparently it is not as much a problem as some other insects.
The new vinegar fly will cause very serious problems.

Is this something that the rest of the country has to worry about,
even us folks up here in the cold cold north?
