Both honeyberry and Haskap are essentially the same species, but with variations. Honeyberry is the name given to Lonicera caerula edulis of Siberian ancestry as a marketing ploy by One Green World. The name is deceptive because it suggests the fruit is sweet, and it' s not. Haskap refers to forms with Japanese ancestry developed by Dr. Maxine Thompson. Haskap generally blooms much later, has larger fruit, and is more productive in a wider range of climates. Your Canadian Haskap could be out of Dr. Bob Bors' work, which combines Russian material with Dr. Thompson's material.

I obtained haskap seeds in Winnepeg. They germinated quickly and I
have about 50 small seedlings about 2 inches tall. But after going

haskaps or honeyberries. I'll plant the seedlings outside today and
see what I get. The seeds were passed through several hands before I
got them. I don't know where they came from or the quality of the
fruit.
