I have experimented grafting pears on wild hawthorn here in Quebec. I
couldn't tell the exact species of hawthorn however - there are so many of
them...
Anyhow, the pear grew well for about 10 years and fruited, but the pear
trunc was much bigger than the hawthorn root. Eventually, some
incompatibility arouse and the pear died a couple of years later.
Altgether, the union lasted about 12 years.
