- Subject: [NAFEX] Fw: Lime Sulfur Demise?
- Date: Fri, 19 Feb 2010 20:50:51 -0600
Doreen,
I expect that other companies make it, so that
shouldn't be a problem. Maybe Bonide is simply dropping it. I can't
imagine that anyone would ban it. A friend told me that it's not
accepted as exactly organic, something about the way that it's made, but from
looking on the net I think she's wrong. It can damage foliage, maybe they
got tired of customers who'd used it carelessly complaining? It's one of
the few sprays I can use, no chemicals. But this spring I'll be spraying
lime copper instead, as there is thread blight on a lot of my trees. It's
on at least one each of pear, apple, plum, cherry. Sulfur has no effect on
it. Donna
Today I received a press packet from the company
that makes Bonide organic products. I'll quote the opening sentence of the
cover letter.
"Dormant disease control products that contain Lime
Sulfur (active ingredient calcium polysulfide) will not longer be available
after garden centers sell through their existing supply."
The letter goes on to tout Bonide Copper Fungicide
as a highly effective alternative.
Obviously, I missed something. When was lime
sulfur banned? Does anyone have information?
