White pines grow in Canada, and there was never a ban as far as I know... We have lots of white pines and 8 black currant bushes since over ten years... I really enjoy the black currants being one of my favorite jelly and addition to many recipes...

This does not seem like a very good argument, since white pines do not grow naturally in Alaska, and don't grow at all in most of the state.
