Ginda,
First go to Google and look up a variety name such as "Geneva 16" rootstock
patent. Then you should see the plant patent number. Then go to http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm and
type in the patent number with pp in front of it, such as pp12443 and click on
Search. It will come up with the patent information for that particular
patent number. If the application date is after June 1995 then add 20
years to that and that is when the patent will expire. In this case the
application was filed on August 12, 1999 so it should expire in 2019 (August
12).
Go to http://law.jrank.org/pages/9086/Patents-Patent-Duration.html for
more information regarding patent durations, etc. You will see that you
will have to do some study to determine the patent expiration dates. It
can be rather complicated.
