The rationale of the product doesn't make
sense to me. Supposedly it causes the cells to retain water. I
know a lot of northern growers have problems with winter desiccation,
but Polymer Ag is applying that to short frosts. I've never
heard of desiccation occurring over a few hours.. My understanding is not
that fruit gets damaged from desiccation, but because the water in the cells
freezes, expands and ruptures the cell. I can't see how retaining water in
the cells would prevent rupture.
Additionally, the product supposedly provides a
"mini-greenhouse". My question is, how could such a thin film provide any
real insulation value. In a real greenhouse, the air acts
as an insulator.
I don't want to be unnecessarily negative on the
product, but I've used another product advertised as a frost protectant, and
couldn't tell that it helped at all.
That product also advertised the same type of
evidence in their promotional literature.
