They may be simply sprouting from their stored energy. The big question is whether they will be able to generate some roots. Don't let them overheat (dappled or indirect sun), keep them moist, and it may work.

I stuck some dormant Methley plum cuttings in the ground, and they are
growing! Do you plum growers think the trees will prosper and be strong as
budded ones ?
And by the way, my pawpaw seedlings from seeds from a nice guy named Lucky
are about 3' tall now.
