I'm a little afraid (lol) to wade into this discussion, but here is my two
cents worth: I spent some time growing up in a fruit growing area of Southern
British Columbia and working in a fruit stand during the summers. We called
all long oval-shaped dark blue-purple stone fruits 'Prune Plums' when they
were fresh and 'prunes' when they were dry while the all other plums were
called by their varietal names: 'Greengage', 'Peach plum', etc.
