Italia was a commercial muscat table grape. It isn't necessarily the best muscat, but it holds it's flavor in shipping better than other muscat grapes. It requires a fair amount of heat to ripen as it's relatively late. Also, it is seeded in a time when everyone wants seedless grapes. If you grow your own, there are other muscat grapes with better flavor. Most do best in a dry growing season, such as on the west coast. The new "Jupiter" is an American hybrid seedless muscat, and NY Muscat is a very good seeded type. There are photos of both linked to the listing of each variety on my website.
