Jacto has a North American web site at http://www.jacto.com/index.html .  It also lists all its dealers. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.

Subject: [NAFEX] backpack sprayers

A couple months back there was some discussion about backpack sprayers.  I just have come indoors after trying a brand that is new to me that is engineered better than any I've tried before.  I've tried quite a few.  The brand of the sprayer I'm talking about is Jacto and was manufactured in Brazil.

It is symmetrical, front and back and designed to easily turn around to pump either left or right handed without switching around the handle.  It has an extra deep strainer to help prevent spilling when filling.  It is shaped to the contours of the back for comfort and delivers more pressure (I think 160 psi) than any sprayer I've used, really sending out a lot of spray for the effort- that's what impressed me the most.

Drawbacks are that it doesn't come with a belly strap to augment the shoulder straps, but the padding is generous and stays where it needs to.  Also, I've only used it this once so I obviously can say nothing about durability or availability of parts, etc. If it didn't perform so well I'd wait to talk about it, when I have more experience with it.  The man who sold it to me also raved about it and I believe his sincerity.

I bought it from a commercial supplier of landscape supplies- mostly fertilizers, pesticides, grass seed, and soil amendments and I don't know what the national availability is but I thought it might be helpful to throw this out there.  Maybe one of you has tried this brand and has more experience with it.
