Can't speak to the status of MN1914 as a club apple or not but will say there
are a variety of different management schemes for club apples. Generally
speaking, the growers do not own the trees, the "Club" does. The grower then
pays royalties for amount produced, and/or the number of acres planted.
Usually there is also an upfront fee for being allowed access to those
varieties in the first place as well.

Hi Deb,

Snowsweet is one of MN newest releases. Released in 2006. I wonder if
it's
also possible the apple was MN1914 which has been test released under
the
managed or "club system" ( Some of the apple folks may offer a
correction,
but I think this is the system where the grower, instead of actually
owning
the tree, pays a royalty for each bushel of apples sold.) I believe
these
are the newest releases of University of MN.

Snowsweet is not released under the club system, but is patented.

She raved about it, but did not know anything more about it (it was not
Zestar!)
