I once bought an elderberry wine kit from nichols Nursery It had dried
elderberries in it and i think we poured boiling water over it. It smelled
wonderful at that point and made very nice wine. On the strength of that i
bought nova and york which are not Sambucas nigra but S. canadensis if i
rember right. They never smelled or tasted good enough for me to want to put
in the effort to make wine or infact anything else out of them even thought
as you said Lon they were bread for size and flavor. I never did ask
Nichols what kind of elderberry was in the kits and I'm sure it's been far
too long for them to know anymore. I thoguht it might be S. nigra just
because it was so much better than my plants.
