It is Black Chokecherry and I didn't think anyone could consider it to be
beautiful. It is considered to be a pest around here. Some Europeans keep
their trees beautifully pruned and shaped and probably the appearance thusly
produced could make it attractive. In bloom it is nice but the flowers don't
last very long and the fruit is eaten by birds quickly. It spreads by
rootlets and seeds. The fruit is tasty and makes good jam. Some say it is medicinal but it we discussed its toxicity previously.
