My 2-3 cents on the composting:

I think a compost heap with fruits & vegs & bread would become a soppy mess
from
rain. I recommend some kind of roof like a lean-to. Or a shade cover which
you can
stand under, and rake/turn the heap frequently. And mix at least 50-50 with
other
normal compost material.

Preferably find some livestock farmer or hobby-farmer who can feed the fruits
& vegs
to animals, and you get a share of the manure!

Did I read that someone puts ALL kitchen waste in their heap? In rural &
suburban
sites I've never seen a compost heap with animal-product table scraps (meat
scraps,
corn cobs w/ traces of butter, etc) which wasn't raided by some scavenging
animal.
I even see egg shells hauled away by some hungry critter, apparently hoping to
salvage that last bit of egg white. These heaps don't always stink, but a
good
fine-mesh enclosure should be considered.

tc, s.WI, where slime-molds on compost heap or elsewhere are rare enough to be
considered interesting
