You failed to specify whose taste buds. Red Splendor which has fruit up to 1/2 inch diameter and is considered a decorative tree which provides edible fruit for "critters". Midwest is listed as having fruit that is 1/4 to 1/3 inch "pea size". These are all decorative or shelterbelt trees, not generally planted for human consumption. I suppose you could use them for applesauce, but probably not for eating "out of hand". Rodney

To Rodney, Michele, & Derry,
I asked, " Of crab apple varieties Red Splendor, Midwest and
Thunderbabies, which
tastes the best for eating out of hand? I want to plant the best tasting
one and need anyone's advice. Thanks." I have a very good reason for
asking about those
three that has nothing to do with the Chestnut Crab being best.

Chestnut has the best flavor of all the crabapples. It also has some size to
it (looks like a real apple). Rodney
