Rob,
For a tough plant that tolerates quite a bit of shade, consider Elaegnus pungens. Blooms in the fall, fruits in late winter or spring. Can be invasive, has colonized open areas along the Savannah River above Augusta, Ga.
Freestanding can be shaped as a bush, with support throws up suckers as a vine.

P.S. As for invasive potential:
Negative Impacts | |
Thorny elaeagnus is a tough plant that can grow in a variety of conditions and survive nearly anywhere. It can thus displace native species by out-competing for space, sunlight, water, and nutrients. | |
