David,
You are exactly right about the phytotoxicity problems. What's missing is
a previous discussion with our entomologist on this very subject, which I am
adding to the blog sometime today. The discussion was :

1. We need to verify the the Damoil in inventory is safe for application at
a rate of 4-5 gallons per acre at pre-pink.
2. With any oil application we will be applying no captan for ~two-three
weeks pre-bloom. I would prefer to not use the high rate of the EBDC's
(Polyram, Dithane, Manzate, etc.) as that precludes post-bloom use. With the
lower rate (3 lbs/acre) we will need to tank-mix Vanguard(cool weather), or
Nova (50z/acre) or Flint or Sovran.

I see where I should have included it earlier to avoid confusion on the
phytotoxicity issue. Thanks for the heads up! That's why I made the post
at NAFEX. I knew that any spray program can be up for discussion and i was
hoping for discussion such as ours here.

Thanks again!

ah - yes, I did miss that - but then I have to question the captan
earlier - phytotoxicity/compatibility problems with oil - seems possible
that you could avoid your first two sprays by a COCS/oil spray at
~1/2"green -
please don't take any of this as criticism, just interested in discussion -

Doug,

You must have missed the oil @ 4-5 gals./acre applied with 90-100 gals
water
/ acre.
Application to be made between green-tip and full pink, with high
temperatures in the 70s or 80s(F).
