Gooseberries need some shade in hot climates especially in the afternoon.
In cooler areas they do well in full sun. I have found that the time that they
suffer the most is when the berries are just turning color and ripening. Many
"scald" just as tomatos do. They can not tolerate sustained temps greater than
90 (F) for more than a couple days.
