Roundup (which has lots of other names) only effects plants when it is
sprayed on their leaves so it is much safer. Unfortunately it pretty
much kills any plant it is sprayed upon
A word of warning. It can kill young trees with thin bark such as persimmon. I found out the hard way, don't spray Roundup on persimmon as high as tall 24 inches. They will absorb it seemingly through the bark! Sprayed on the bases while the trees were still dormant, no leaves out.
