This is the same recommendation I'd make for the Bud.118 rootstocks I've grafted! They REALLY want to grow roots, and foil left on during growing season promotes roots along the trunk, especially at graft union.

if the trunk is smooth and you keep the weeds/grass down, burr knot
developement shouldn't be a problem - use hardware cloth rabbit guards,
rather than solid/opaque ones - do what you can to keep the exposed stock
dry and in the light - - knots are less an issue as the tree gets older -
