Thank you for all the replies. I decided to use the
bolt through the tree. The tree is young, but fairly
large.
I and cleaned out the wound then closed the wound
using some tie-down straps with a ratchet clamp. I put
the bolt in, and wrapped the wound with some tape.

Its not one of my best trees. Loquats at marginal at
best here for its fruits, but I want to still play
with it. If could only find a variety that blooms and
fruit in the summer, it would be near the top of the
list.
