I have used hardwood ash as a fertilizer for years for P&k. I prefer to use
it to sweeten the soil as opposed to lime. I heat with wood so I have a
bunch of it each year. I use it on 20 acres or so. Test your soil routinely
since it will raise the PH. Do not routinely use it in a small garden.

HARDWOOD ASH:

It has no Dioxin, no PCBs, no sugar and it's fat free. It's also not
really a fertilizer per se, but more of a Ph changer.
If you are worried about your Azeleas being in too low of a Ph soil,
just mix in a 3lb coffee can of hard wood ash per plant, water well,
and wait for results. ;-)

What can you say about wood ash other than the colonials used to use
one of it's ingrediants to make soap?

As a fertilizer. I searched on the terms hardwood ash and fertilizer.
There is lots of info about wood ash on the internet. I had a neighbor
use it as a fertilizer in already high ph soil. Not good.
