Those of you in more moderate climates might find this promotional story of
interest. Pomegranates are increasingly popular in the US, especially with
the increasing numbers of immigrants from the Middle East. Chefs have
adopted the pomegranate as one of the new food trends also. I noticed last
fall that the price of fresh pomegranates was down a bit in the Twin Cities.
It's interesting, though, that most of the grenadine (used as a flavoring in
drinks) sold here no longer contains any pomegranate juice. On the other
hand, concentrated pomegranate juice, or syrup, (mostly from the Middle East)
is appearing in more and more co-op and health food stores. --Sam Brungardt,
