Seeking seed starting media experiences:
with fruit tree seeds in the following mediums:
1] long fiber spagnum moss
not "peat moss" which is a mined product of ancient mosses,
but rather this is the harvested-from-live mosses, then dried
[and of course rehydrated when used for germination]
2] vermiculite and the like
weren't these recently found to be carcinogenic?
3] compost made in my compost bin
4] you suggest : STERILIZED SAND kept moist by bottom watering and
covering top with bread wrapper plastic until sprouted then covered with a
jar. Nutrients not needed and they encourage unwanted fungi and other
spurious growths. Warmth from the bottom helps seeds to sprout. Scarifying
pits is helpful also.
5] peat moss seed starting cubes ...e.g. Jiffy 7's and the like
I am germinating plum and peach seed kept moist and cold all winter.
I want to germinate some outside and some inside.
Appreciate your suggestions and experiences.
