Nafolks,
For what it's worth, I've read of killing rats in burrows by finding
and blocking all the alternative exits and dropping lit charcoal briquets
into the main opening, and then blocking it also. Supposedly the briquets
burn slowly, eventually consume the available Oxygen and replace it with CO
and CO2. I imagine this might work with groundhogs as well, perhaps
requiring more briquets.
Also, at risk of annoying the non-organic folks on the list, I have
read of several (presumably) effective methods of shutting down fire ant
colonies. I've never had call to try them so I am just passing along the
tales, for someone else to experiment with.
One method involves grinding orange skins and orange juice into a
slurry in a blender and pouring it all over the opening and the mound.
Another calls for simply dumping a five pound bag of bleached white flour
onto the mound. And the last is to pile some diatomaceous earth in and
around the openings.
If anyone tries any of these, I'd like to know if any worked.
Thanks. dylan
