Dear Doreen,

Don't spare the ashes. If your soil is as acid as mine you could probably spread a couple of LARGE coffee cans around each small to medium tree. For a while there I had a deal going with a local bakery which used a wood-fired brick oven and they saved all their ashes for me. But that was years ago and I fear that the soil pH is creeping down again.
