Saturday and Sunday November 1 & 2, 2003
9th Annual Franklin County Apple & Cider Day.
info forwaded by
Charlie Paradise eastern Massachusetts/zone 5:
I went to this two years ago.
I still have 6 gallons of cider in my freezer, I'm drinking some now
I just thawed, still great.
If any list members decide to attend the cider day, drop me an email
at machelp@attglobal.net so we can try to cross paths.
Cider Day Festival in Franklin
County Massachusetts
"We hope that you will
enjoy discovering the
wide variety of ciders
and apples that we offer."
There are several opportunities of interest to NAFEXers:
1] getting off the shuttle bus from the parking lot, vendors sell 30+ fresh rare/historical fancy apples;
2] talks on cider are held inside the building;
3] opportunities to purchase vintage ciders, for example the one I'm drinking now is a blend with Northern Spy, Golden Russet and several others.
This is in northernmost Franklin County. Franklin County is on
the Connecticut River, in Central Massachusetts. This is not far
from the from-Boston-to-Pittsfield Route 2, but would be at least an hour
and a half drive from Boston, I estimate. It would be much closer
to Brattleboro VT, for instance.
Demonstrations, Talks and Tastings - CiderDay 2003
Each year we have discussions, seminars, tastings and other events where
people
can taste and learn about ciders, apples, and cheese. The home orchardist
can
watch pruning and learn about planning an orchard and grafting trees. Of
special
note is the extensive program of hard cider tasting, both home-made and
artisanal,
at the Brick Meeting House in Colrain on Saturday. On Sunday, there will
be a
paired cider and cheese tasting presented by Matthew Rubiner and Ben Watson
at
the Deerfield Inn.
Events are free except for the Cider Tastings on Saturday, and the Cider
and
Cheese Tasting on Sunday. Purchase a Cider Day glass for $5 to enjoy this
yearÂ’s
cider tastings on Saturday at the Brick Meeting House. One glass is good
for all
tastings. Purchase a ticket for $15 ($12 for Slow Food and CISA members)
for the
Cider and Cheese Tasting on Sunday. Seating is limited. Call the Franklin
County
Chamber of Commerce at 413 773 5463 to purchase tickets. Proceeds benefit
CiderDay and Slow Food.
Join in on the learning and tasting!
