Jason,

I'm not sure about your nutrient situation. However, Kingston Black has
completely killed in several trials in the Twin Cities (MN) area, also a
zone 4b. Perhaps you'll have better luck since, low temperatures aside,
your climate is not as harsh as the Midwest's. You might want to consider
topworking KB on a hardy stem if the survival is important to you. This
would certainly improve your chances.
