If the thought of using roundup makes you cringe you could always borrow someone's pig & create a temporary pen around the area. Invasives will be gone, the area will be nicely manured, & the microfauna in your soil will still be alive.

Roundup. If you can get some insulin needles you can inject it in the shoot or
