The wild Ribes (not sure of species) and my old variety of red currant (not sure of cultivar) both root pretty well with the branch still attached to the plant, and part of that branch covered with a generous layer of mulchy leaves.

Tanis, s.WI, wild Ribes have MANY long thorns and very rarely a berry.

Can you layer them? Easy to do and works well if the circumstance is
appropriate.
