Those of you with hard freezes this spring, please observe then share which
fruits still bear a sizeable crop for you this year, especially those at or
near bloom. Thanks!

According to sensors at the local school, we were at or below 25F for 6
hours last night. My min/max thermometer recorded 23F for the low. Light
wind and no frost. Mid 20s is tough on blooming fruits.
In full bloom yesterday: Glenndale gooseberry, Red currants, Toyo Nishiki
quince, several Amelanchiers (juneberries aka saskatoons), Eleagnus
multiflora (Goumi), Prunus avium 'Blackheart' cherry, Chojuro and Shinsu
Asian pears, Poncirus trifoliata, peach
A few blooms open: Korean Giant Asian pear, rabbiteye blueberries,
strawberries, French Petite prune plum.
Blooming mostly over before freeze: Nanking Cherry, Hollywood plum, Cornus
mas
Most visible damage this morning: all new growth on A. arguta and A.
kolomikta kiwi.

We'll be watching to see what still fruits well this year.

We had a few fruits from year to year, Mike. Only enough for a taste, =
and while they tasted good, after all they were the first fruits of the =
year, they were nowhere near as good as blueberry nor a particle as =
productive. They would probably be fine in zone 4 and colder where you =
can't grow much fruit. I think that's why the Russians like them. =
