Dear NAFEX membership,

This is a general call for gathering editors to help put Pomona together for future issues. I need people to serve beginning with the Winter 2004 issue, which means you would be working on materials in November 2003. Following is the text I put with the temporary job of gathering editor, who serves for a one issue commitment only, though you are always welcome to volunteer for another one later!

Thanks for considering.

Jackie Kuehn
Editor-in-chief, Pomona

Every three months, Pomona needs a new gathering editor, and you might just enjoy the job and the service to NAFEX. It is a volunteer position, though there is a small honorarium of $150.
Articles are sent directly to the gathering editor, often by email or on disc. The job of gathering editor basically involves typing submitted articles onto computer, editing as you go for grammar, spelling, and readability. This is not an area to sweat too much over; I edit again, and would catch anything you arent sure about. I need your knowledge of plants, varieties, growing and marketing methods, etc., far more than I need your ability to handle the article texts. If you have questions about facts, names, etc., do your best to check up on them, and then make a note to me of anything you find questionable. I take the responsbility for making the final decision on what to include, based on space and suitability.
By the deadline given below, send me the completed materials on disk and in their original form:
Winter issueNovember 8 (this date allows leeway for the busy holiday season); contributors deadline for getting materials to youOctober 25.
Spring issueFebruary 15; contributors deadline March 31.
Summer issueMay 15; contributors deadline April 30.
Fall issueAugust 15; contributors deadline July 31.
Mark questionable articles for me, and Ill do the dirty work: I rarely and always reluctantly send articles back to their authors when necessary with athanks, but these do not meet our needs at this time letter.
If you are interested, email or write to me at one of the addresses given inside the front cover of Pomona and well decide which issue would be most convenient for you to work on; Ill welcome your help!
