Open them in the Word version they were written in or _any_ program that will load and display them, then save them as plain ascii text where they can be ported to email, web documents, etc. become part of your info archives, etc.; possibly Notepad or Wordpad will do the trick.

Folks in some of the techie newsgroups in Usenet can tell you how to find a
program that will load them, as a last resort.
