Anton, you wrote------------
4. Finally a question 'specially for Ed. I was reading
Brooks Drain's
"Southern Pear Breeding" (ASHS, 1955) and noticed this footnote on page 301: "Records previous to 1941 were kept by ... and H.L. Fackler." Is this kinfolk of yours or are ya'll a pair of unrelated pear experts? My response---------- Firstly,
the classic definition of "expert" is an age-old misnomer. According
to geological digs the key element of this
word is simply "ex". Or as my late friend
and pear researcher, Paul Steiner used to
say "the more I learn of these facts the less
I believe in them"!!
Re: my kinship to
H.L. Fackler, I don't have a clue and don't intend to
pursue it. My wife did a 10 year
geneology on her family and discovered many
surprises in her lineage. Sometimes
it is best to let history rest!!!
I wish all a very
fruitful 2003.
Ed, Mid-Ohio, snowy heaven,
etc.
