I am not sure the English are crazy...
They do enjoy tart apples more than most North American people however.
As we all know, the quality of an apple varies a lot with climate and
location. This is why I was inquiring about Esopus Spitzenburg in colder
climate...
At my place (zone 4), I found Bramley quite good fresh - at least those I
picked later. Maybe it doesn't do as well in warmer areas (like McIntosh).
I have a bag left which I intend to use for a sauce during Xmas time. I am
looking forward to taste it.
As of Gravenstein, it might be even better for sauces and pies, but I think
it is useless to try to grow it in cold climate.
